Intermediate Italian II

The first course beyond the three-course cycle of beginning/intermediate Italian classes and a gateway course for students purusing a major or minor in Italian, as well as for those planning to study abroad in Italy. In this course, a deep and comprehensive review of fundamental structures of language will be organized around a close viewing of Marco Tullio Giordana’s 2003 film La meglio gioventù, a series which follows the lives of two brothers growing up in Italy during the latter part of the twentieth century. Their lives and ensuing dramas span several critical eras of Italian history which themselves were full of social and political drama; students will gain historical and cultural knowledge in this course as well.

Prerequisites: ITAL 203 or ITAL 401 + permission of the Undergraduate Italian Advisor

Offered in Fall and Spring.
