Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics

This course is an introduction to the basic linguistic topics in the study of the Spanish language, from the point of view of contemporary theory.  In this course several concepts from the main linguistic fields – phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, acquisition, dialectology, and historical linguistics – will be introduced.

By the end of the course, each student will have an advanced understanding of the basic grammatical patterns of Spanish and will be prepared to take more advanced Hispanic linguistics courses.

Requisites: Prerequisite, SPAN 300.
