Guaraní, one the two official languages of Paraguay, is the only indigenous language in the Americas that is spoken natively by a non-indigenous majority. In this seminar you will learn how this important language survived colonization, how it changed after contact with Spanish, along with the rest of its history, grammar, social status, and linguistic typology (how it relates to other Amerindian and non-Amerindian languages). You will also learn to have basic conversations in Guarani!
