Lecture and Conversation with Scholar on Francophone Performance Studies

Dr. Louis Patrick Leroux (Concordia University- CA) – Louis Patrick Leroux is a playwright, director, and scholar who holds a joint appointment in both departments of English and French Studies.

After degrees in Theatre (Ottawa, BA; Paris III, DEA), French Literature (Ottawa, BA), and Arts Management (HEC-Montréal, DESS), he earned his doctorate in Theatre and the Performing Arts from the Sorbonne nouvelle (Paris III).

Before joining academia, he worked as a playwright and director and was the founding Artistic Director of Ottawa’s Théâtre la Catapulte (1992-98) and a co-founder of la Nouvelle scène theatre space in Ottawa.

Next year he will be traveling to offer Keynote lectures in Vegas, Sydney, Quebec, Toulouse, perhaps Sweden, and the Czech Republic, as well as a creative workshop in Santiago, Chile.

He has agreed to give a lecture on contortions in Circus and how they “flip” the gaze and question how we look at the female body.
