Marathon Reading of Cervantes’ Don Quixote de la Mancha

The Department of Romance Studies at UNC Chapel Hill is pleased to announce a marathon reading of Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote de la Mancha on April 18, 2016. The marathon reading will be held on the UNC Chapel Hill campus and will take place in Toy Lounge in Dey Hall from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This event is a part of the statewide El Quixote Festival, which commemorates the 400th anniversary of the publication of the second volume of the Quixote. The marathon reading at UNC Chapel Hill on April 18 is the first in a five-day series whose goal is to read aloud both volumes of the Quixote in a total of 40 hours. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are all welcome to participate. Volunteers may sign up to read in any language for any length of time by visiting the website of the El Quixote Festival at http://iamquixote.com/marathon-the-department-of-romance-studies-unc/.

The marathon reading at UNC Chapel Hill is organized by graduate students and faculty members of the Department of Romance Studies with the collaboration of Rafael A. Osuba, Founder and Artistic Director of El Quixote Festival, and Professor Jonathan Wade of Meredith College.  . In 2016, the UNC Graduate Romance Association’s Carolina Conference will be held from March 31 to April 2 and will feature a panel on the Quixote as part of the El Quixote Festival.
