About Zoe

Born and raised in Texas, Zoe began studying French after her family hosted an exchange student from Asnières-sur-Seine, France. Within a year Zoe spent a summer studying French at The American University of Paris (AUP) before moving to Paris full-time in 2021. Here, she completed a B.A. in Comparative Literature, receiving Departmental and Provost's Honors. During her time at AUP, Zoe traveled extensively around Europe and took a wide variety of courses such as (De)Colonial Narratives, Dante and the Medieval World, and The Fabulous and Monstrous Renaissance. Her research interests focus primarily on Postcolonial Francophone narratives related to the female body, methods of colonial resistance, and the effects of colonialism on our relationship with the natural world. Zoe's senior thesis was titled, The Poetics of Water in Humus by Fabienne Kanor.

At AUP Zoe acted as a staff editor for the student-led literary magazine, Paris / Atlantic and a French tutor. Now at UNC, Zoe hopes to share her love for the French language and culture with students and to demonstrate what is possible in foreign language learning. Zoe also plans to continue studying German and to learn Italian. In her spare time Zoe enjoys reading Romance, traveling, drinking too much caffeine, and playing with her family dogs she missed while abroad.
