Ángeles Naval is Profesora Titular in the field of contemporary Spanish literature and culture at the University of Zaragoza.   Her latest research focuses on the period of Spain’s transition from the Franco dictatorship to democracy (1975-87).  This period is the subject of hot debate right now among scholars and in civil society:  was it a model, peaceful transition to democracy, or did it leave key elements of the dictatorship intact, including impunity for its crimes against humanity?  Perhaps because of this “unfinished business,” the Transition is frequently thematized in the literature and popular culture of the twenty-first century.  Professor Naval’s new book, La transición sentimental, is about to appear with the prestigious Spanish press Visor.
