About Professor Ruel
Cécile Ruel's research focuses on 20th and 21st French century literature, with a special interest in travel narratives, particularly travel narratives by women. Her dissertation, entitled Politique, poétique, philosophique: le récit de voyage de Simone de Beauvoir aux États-Unis, shows how travel writing is central to Beauvoir's thought as a creative space in which she engages with identity and otherness, philosophy, particularly phenomenology, and politics.
Research Interests
Other interests include film, philosophy and environmental studies.
