About Professor Rodrigues Ferreira

Paulo Rodrigues Ferreira teaches Lusophone language and literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before moving to North Carolina, he lived in New Jersey and taught Portuguese at Queens College and Bronx Community College in New York. He holds a Ph.D. in Contemporary History from the University of Lisbon with a thesis titled "Iberisms, Hispanisms, and their Contraries: Portugal and Spain (1908-1931)," and has conducted academic research on Iberian cultural relations, as well as on contemporary Portuguese writers such as António Lobo Antunes or Ruben A., who explore themes associated with Portuguese decadence. Among his published fictional works, his novel "Uso Errado da Vida" (Companhia das Ilhas, 2019) stands out as a finalist for the Eça de Queiroz Literary Prize. He recently won the Ferreira de Castro / INCM Prize, and following this award, he published the book "Ninguém Volta ao que Deixou" through INCM. He is also the co-editor of "Romance Notes".
